Hands On Training

CHCPRT025 Identify and Respond To Children and Young People at Risk

If you work in a job role which provides services to children and young people, including in community services and health contexts, and which carries a duty of care responsibility within legislative and policy frameworks, then this course is for you.

Participants in this course will learn the skills and knowledge required to support and protect children and young people who are at risk of harm. It focuses not only on identifying the signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect, but also supports child-focused practices to uphold the rights of the child, disclosure, reporting and confidentiality in accordance with state legislative responsibilities and the service policies and procedures.

Participants will also learn how to apply ethical and nurturing practices and observe professional boundaries when working with children and young people.

The skills in this course are applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

Please note: the learning content for this course can be undertaken online. However the practical component must be completed in the workplace.

This is done by using a third party report where a person in the workplace observes you undertaking the set tasks, who then signs a declaration that they have witnessed you completing the set tasks.

To undertake the online option, you will need to be either currently employed in the childcare sector or be able to find a workplace which will allow you to volunteer your time to perform the tasks and be willing to provide a third party observer to witness your demonstrations and to complete a third party report form.

Please note: You will require a smart phone or camera attached to your computer or tablet to video yourself completing the practical assessment requirements of the Online Course.
